Sports Massage Therapy

Sports massage is not only for people who play sport, it’s also beneficial for general aches and pains. It’s the most effective therapy for releasing muscle tension and restoring balance to the musculo-skeletal system. Received regularly this may help prevent injuries, which might otherwise be caused by overuse.

Sports massage has a number of benefits:-

  • Deep tissue massage causes the pores in tissue membranes to open, enabling fluids carrying nutrients to pass through more easily. This also helps eliminate waste products such as lactic acid and dead tissue.

  • Stretching - Massage can stretch tissues that cannot easily be stretched using the normal techniques, massage can stretch the bundles of muscle fibres crossways as well as lengthways.

  • Scar tissue is the result of previous injuries and can affect muscle, leading to inflexible tissue that’s prone to injury.

  • Improve tissue elasticity - Tight muscles after a physical activity can be improved by massage and stretching techniques.

  • Pain reduction – Lactic acid in muscles can frequently cause pain and stiffness after physical activity. Massage can help reduce this in many ways including the removal of lactic acid and releasing the body’s natural painkiller, endorphins.

  • Relaxation - Muscles relax through the heat generated by massage improving circulation.

  • Reducing Stress - through the effects mentioned above relaxation is achieved and so reduces stress levels.

  • Invigorating – when massage is applied with brisk movements, this produces an invigorating feeling and can aid your warm up routine.
